Marine Gateway Project : Hole In The Ground
Earlier in the year, hundreds of people camped out overnight in the hopes of purchasing one of the 415 units coming up for sale in the Marine Gateway development. With prices starting at $262,900.00 and over 11,000 people registering it Sold Out within four hours. Located next to the Marine Drive Skytrain Station this development "features breathtaking panoramic water, mountain and city views" and will include a movie theater, supermarket, restaurants and residential units.
What seems to be left out in the coverage of this development is that it is located just blocks from Vancouver's Transfer Station. Only a block south on Kent Street it is not unusual to see cars lined up waiting to enter the Station and drop off items for recycling, composting or trash. Trucks leave the station hauling loads of Vancouver garbage headed to one of the province's landfills. On a hot, sunny day the smell of garbage can linger for hours if not days.
